The kids class at JM Modern Jiu Jitsu

Ages 3 and up

Kids who can handle themselves

Our programme has consistently produced children who are genuinely capable of defending themselves — and high-level champions in the sport. Both come from the same thing: a structured, effective, safe and supportive room.

Real self-defence

Jiu jitsu was built so a smaller person can control someone three or four times their size. The techniques and the live training prepare a child for a physical situation in a way nothing else does.

An answer to bullying

Schoolyard bullying causes problems that follow people for decades. We equip your child to handle it confidently — and without hurting the other kid. That sounds impossible. It is not.

Competition, when they want it

Competing teaches goal-setting, nerve management, and pushing past a limit in a way class alone cannot. We prepare every child who wants to step on the tournament mat, and we never push the ones who do not.

Structure and high energy

Classes are grouped by age and experience so nobody is bored and nobody is over their head. Sessions move fast, which is how you keep a room of children focused and engaged.

We believe competition is a powerful tool for growth, so we encourage every child to try it. Win or lose, a tournament teaches a kid to set a goal, manage nerves, adapt, and go again. That is discipline, accountability and perseverance — and it translates well off the mats.

Our coaches prepare students individually so they walk out on the mat feeling ready, not thrown in. Nobody competes who does not want to.

Starting out

From age three

We take enrolments from age 3. Classes are designed around age group and experience level so a first-week white belt and a competing yellow belt are both in the right place. Kids classes are included in the standard membership — there is no separate youth rate and no uniform requirement to start.

Bring your child in for a free trial class. Watch from the side, see how the room runs, and decide afterwards.

Nobody walks in knowing what they are doing

95% of our students started with zero experience. Come watch a class, or get on the mats the same day. No pressure, no sales pitch, no contract to sign.
